The Burbot Aquaculture Technician II works directly with the Hatchery Manager, Assistant Hatchery Manager and Biologist to implement all aspects of burbot aquaculture at the Tribe’s Sturgeon and Burbot Hatchery in Moyie Springs, ID. The Aquaculture Technician II must be available for on-call shifts and be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, if necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Basic working knowledge of hatchery operations; must understand and have a working knowledge of fish genetics and nutritional and environmental requirements of fish.
  • Experience with all aspects of fish culture including incubation, larval rearing, live feed production, juvenile rearing, grading, tagging, etc
  • Four-year degree in fisheries science or related degree and at least one year of experience at a cold water fish hatchery is preferred.
  • Experience working with burbot is preferable.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Applicant must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Applicant should be motivated, energetic, physically fit and able to work independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Additionally, an understanding and knowledge of Kootenai Tribal history is a desired attribute.
