Taylor Shellfish Farms is one of the largest producers of farmed shellfish in North America. The company is quickly growing in sustainable shellfish farming with new techniques and innovative growing methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Farming and maintaining Pacific oyster broodstock on a raised-gear, intertidal aquatic farm from seed to adult
  • Understanding and following instructions to apply the principles of tracking and care of Pacific oyster broodstock from seed to adult life stages in the intertidal aquatic farming environment
  • Be an active member of a raised-gear oyster farm maintenance and harvest crew. Activities include:
  • Deckhand on a variety of commercial aquaculture boats up to 40 ft
  • Handling, restocking and labeling oyster broodstock growout containers
  • Gear and equipment cleaning, repair, organization and maintenance in the bay and upland
  • Deploying and distributing growout oysters, containers, and gear to required locations on a mid-sized, raised-gear, intertidal farm either manually, or from boats / scow
  • Harvest broodstock oysters for breeding purposes

Qualifications:

  • Ability to sit, stand and/or walk on uneven ground (intertidal environment)
  • Needs to be able to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to speak and hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, supervisors and managers
  • Must be able to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
  • Must have agility and balance to safely climb on machines, boats, etc.
  • Must be able to operate boats, and small cranes once trained
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate the tide and logistics schedule
  • Ability to work well with others within a small tight-knit team
  • Ability to work independently at times
  • Musty be capable of understanding and following instructions from managers
  • WA State Boater’s card
  • Must be able to speak and understand English
  • Must be able to swim
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and various times of the day and night
  • Forklift training preferable
