Responsibilities:

  • The hatchery technician is responsible for the daily maintenance of the hatchery/nursery; including, but not limited to: broodstock, larval, seed production and microalgae duties. These duties include stock management through all phases, tank cleaning, tank filling, moving hoses, operating pumps, handling disinfectant chemicals and fertilizers, performing algae inoculations, etc.
  • Large-scale microalgae cultivation and maintenance.
  • Proper tank/equipment cleaning, preparation and storing.
  • Brood stock cleaning, feeding, maintenance.
  • Larval feeding and maintenance.
  • General data collection and laboratory record taking.
  • Collecting samples and performing stock assessments. Algae, larval, and seed count cell counting
  • Handling disinfectant chemicals and fertilizers.
  • Bivalve seed size grading
  • Monitor the overall health of the hatchery/nursery.
  • Working on slippery and uneven terrain (steps, decking, plumbing, etc.)
