The inclusion and participation of women in small- scale aquaculture sectors is often underestimated and undervalued. However, as natural hazards increase the vulnerability of coastal aquaculture communities, recent research showed the integration of women during the implementation of disaster management plans helps reduce overall disaster risk. Research assessed gender integration as a result of disaster risk reduction legislation implemented in the Philippines after two major typhoons hit the area in 2013 and 2014.
